you made me realize that wemmbu. Barely moved away from his station, not just the colony but the vault
whenever he moved away from the vault it was to either show a new guy around or to fight and the few times he actually moved away from the colony it was for the benefit of the colony
i think?? hes only moved away from the colony thrice?? 1. to fight the levels guys 2. to help build the gold farm and 3. to recruit fantst
like. he was So determined to do a good job that stayed in one plalce for practically the whole video, which is highly notable considering he was all over the place in previous vids
also i took so many screenshots of the final confrontation lol but its mostly of the same scenes so heres some of the more notable ones
notice how zam has a habit of either perching somewhere higher than wemmbu or getting right up in his face or backed up by his guards
though interestingly the one time where it was neither of those things, where wemmbu was instead higher than zam, was in that final moment where they just stared at each other for an amount of time that was ngl bordering on uncomfortable lol, idk if thats just coincidence or if it means anything at all but still interesting
Zam: "The worst part about this is that, y'know, I actually... I-I kind of enjoyed working with you, but... I dunno... I-- again I-- I mean, I know how you work. I know how you are. I know what you do."
Zam: "You betray, and... I'm not gonna give you the chance to do that to my empire 'cause I care too much about it."
Wemmbu: "Bro, I haven't... I haven't... betrayed a single-- a-and I get that I've done that in the past but, like, I.."
Wemmbu: "I just haven't done anything like that on this server. I-I-- dude."
Zam: "Doesn't matter, Wemmbu, I'm not... I'm not taking any risks."
Wemmbu: "Are you not gonna kill me now, though? Heh."
Zam: "No!"
Wemmbu: "Why--"
Zam: "I have no reason to, what are you gonna do?" [laugh]
Zam: "There's no need to." [laugh]
Wemmbu: "You're gonna--" [chuckle]
Zam: "There's no need to chunk ban you either--"
[explosions go off in bg for the rest of the conversation]
Zam: "--I'll let you... y'know, I'll just-- I'll just let you, like, y'know, just live in it. Live in the moment. Uhh, enjoy your time. Live out-- Live out your days, do whatever you want, I don't really care."
Zam: "You're not a threat."
...
Zam: "Y'know you can just-- you can just move on from all this-- this empire stuff, you can go... just go back to whatever it was you were doing before you ever met me, before you ever met... anyone else on the server, just- just go back to being Wemmbu, just go... just go do Wemmbu things."
Zam: "Y--[wheeze] Y'know the funniest part about all of this? You shouldn't even be mad right now because this is-- these are my materials that I'm blowing up. Just to send a message."
Zam: "There's-- [chuckles] There's no reason for you to be upset about this, I gave you all this stuff. Maybe you spent the time on it but, like, who really cares? Just..."
Zam: "Just move on to something better, move on to something else."
Zam: "Uhh... and don't... don't-- don't mess with me. In any way, shape, or form, alright, let this be a lesson to you."
...
Zam: [giggles]
Zam: "Ahh, what a wonderful day."
...
Wemmbu: "Y'know what's funny, Zam?"
Zam: "Yeah?"
Wemmbu: "You think I'm not a threat and yet, somehow..."
Wemmbu: "With your prisons, you couldn't even stop literally the most helpless player on the server, Parrot--"
(overlapping) Zam: [laughs]
(overlapping) Wemmbu: "--from... from breaking into them and freeing everyone."
Wemmbu: "You couldn't even hold Spoke... for, like, a week."
Wemmbu: "And this is your--"
Zam: "Mmhmm."
Wemmbu: "--little sad attempt... at having control over that sort of situation again."
Zam: "Mmm."
Zam: "That's what you think, Wemmbu, that's what you think."
Wemmbu: "That's what I think?"
Zam: "Yeah..."
Wemmbu: "Alright..."
Wemmbu: "Ha-- You know what's funny though?"
Zam: "Yeah?"
Wemmbu: "I don't think you realize but Clown has already failed to kill Parrot."
Zam: "Really?"
Zam: "Parrot's a little slippery guy, I'm not... I mean, like..."
(overlapping) Wemmbu: [laugh] "That's just--"
(overlapping) Zam: "It's-- It's-- It's a little shocking."
Wemmbu: "That's-- That's the opposite of the truth, Parrot... Parrot is the easiest guy to capture or trick and yet y-you still.. are so incompetent you can't even do it yourself."
Wemmbu: "And now-- heh."
Zam: "Mmhmm."
Wemmbu: "And you think just placing a bunch of TNT in... in th-- in these builds i-i-i-is, like..."
Wemmbu: "I dunno, bro. Y-Y-- [chuckle]. You're a funny guy, Zam, you're a funny guy."
Zam: "Yeah?"
...
Zam: [chuckle] "Oh, Wemmbu..."
Zam: "Hey, if you continue messing with me there will be plenty of chances, I'm sure. But... I'm-- I'm giving you the chance to, y'know, walk away from all of this."
(overlapping) Wemmbu: "Zam. I haven't... I haven't messed with you."
(overlapping) Zam: "I feel like you should take that in good faith."
Wemmbu: "I haven't messed with you once, Zam."
Wemmbu: "I literally..."
Zam: "You said you were gonna kill me the second you get the chance."
Wemmbu: "When did I say that?!"
Zam: "During the trial chambers! Remember?"
Wemmbu: "Bro, I was just [while laughing] yapping, bro, when-- why would I kill you?"
Zam: "Doesn't matter, doesn't matter. I know how you work, Wemmbu."
Wemmbu: "Bro."
Zam: "Y-- As soon as it becomes convenient for you--"
(overlapping) Wemmbu: "Bro, this entire time, bro."
(overlapping) Zam: "--you definitely were going to kill me."
Wemmbu: "It was never convenient for me this entire time to protect your stupid vault, I didn't even go in it until, like..."
Zam: [giggle]
Wemmbu: "Until I knew for a fact that you were against me."
Zam: "Mmhmm."
Wemmbu: "I was nothing but loyal, bro."
Wemmbu: "Every single day, Egg would ask me if we could break in the vault because what you were saying made no sense and I trusted you."
Wemmbu: "You made a massive mistake here, Zam."
Zam: [laugh] "If it's a mistake then prove it to me 'cause, I-I dunno, right now from-- from what I'm looking at, Wemmbu, a shoeless-- a shoeless player, from what I'm looking at right now, uhh, this doesn't feel like a mistake to me at all. I feel like I've, uhh, made the right choice."
Zam: "I don't need someone as weak as you in my empire."
Wemmbu: "Alright, bro."
Zam: [chuckle]
[explosions go off in bg]
#not ls#vid: I Created Minecraft's Greatest Civilization#scs#also sort of related sort of not#idk if its just me but wemmbu seems to have a habit of pointlessly opening and sorting his inventory when hes uneased#and he did that quite a bit this episode#mainly when zam comes up#he also seems to have a tendency of just staring at things when he doesnt know what to do#he also does that quite a bit this episode#mainly when parrot and clown trespassed the colony#and during the final confrontation#speaking of; while typing this i rewatched the final confrontation and im at the part where zam revealed exactly what was gong on#(its the part where hes perched on an iron block thing)#and wemmbu just kept staring at him and had a delayed really hard flinch/reaction when zam jumped down#which i thought was interesting considering hes one of the ppl with a better reaction time on the server#also incredibly fucked up that zam essentially told him to fuck off and be isolated again and equated it to being a wemmbu thing#like damn girl#like idk if he was lonely but he was certainly a bit more detached compared to the other ppl on the server#with no real allies and everyone having a certain amount of wariness about him#and zam basically was like yeah thats the best that you deserve loser#like damn girl Damn#vidwatching#watchblogging#uu

Hoshina Soushirou still dreamt of you. Every once in a while, you’d come to visit him in his sleep and it would make him believe that a miracle had occurred, that he had another chance. Every time, he would tell himself that he would never let this go, that he would give it his absolute all this time.
Yet, every time, he would wake up from this dream.
And every time, he would feel his heart drop at the realization of that. He was disappointed, and he knew, but there was no reason to be. It wasn't like anything had happened between the two of you. He liked to believe there was something going on— something more than mere acquaintances or friends, but he knew there wasn't. It must've been all in his head because the last time he had heard of you was before you were moved to the first division. He hadn't heard a single word from you since then, nor has he said anything— but that was just the way it was. There was nothing to do at this point anyway.
He wasn’t with you for all that long, and it was probably just the fact that both of you joined at the same time that naturally started the first conversation. He was far more weary of everything and far less cheerful at the time, and you didn't even work with him most of the time being a researcher, but you didn’t mind that one bit. If you had something you wanted to say, you would tell him and he’d just have to listen. At first, he had no idea why you kept talking to him when he paid hardly any mind, but after a while, he found comfort in your conversations. He had started to look forward to talking to you.
It had only been a few months before the defense force noticed how spectacular your work was and quickly called you over to the first division. There wasn’t a tearful farewell, or even a casual goodbye for that matter. You disappeared along with a cheerful ‘I’ll see you around!’ while you were moving your boxes out and he would hear those words ring in his head for the years to come— in your voice. Yet, at the time, all he could do was force a smile and nod.
It had been so many years since you had moved, he didn’t even know what you looked like now. Probably still stunning. Definitely still stunning. Although he had the chance to see the 1st division officers a lot, you were a researcher who worked behind the scenes. Naturally, there was no reason he'd bump into you, and he didn’t. He never did.
He loved to remember you, but he hated to think about you. He loved to remember the way you would laugh at his silly jokes, the way you would ramble on about the work you had to do daily but would still put in your all, and the way you would always visit him with some cold tea when he trained late into the night if you were still up as well. Actually, he hated thinking about the tea— it would make him start thinking about you. He would think about how you were now, if you were still pilled with work, and if you remembered him.
If he bumped into you, would you remember his name? Maybe if he cracked a lame joke. Maybe if he gave you a few days to think about it. Maybe if he started listing the things you talked about— his most treasured memories. Maybe then you’d say his name again.
See? This is why he hated thinking about you— he had things to be doing.
It wasn't like this happened everyday and it wasn't that big of a deal. It just ruined his day a little when it did happen. So if he had to say, he hated dreaming of you.
As you took over his thoughts again, the emergency alarm started to buzz, as if to tell him to snap out of it. He was thankful, he couldn't still be daydreaming like this.
A smaller-sized identified grade kaiju had appeared near the first division quarters, so the third division was doing more backup work this time. Hoshina was taking care of the smaller kaiju in the vicinity that had spawned from the presence of the honju. It felt nice for him to be doing work, it took his mind off his ramblings and cleared his head. He wasn't too worried about the honju, however. Although it was an identified grade, it wasn't anything they hadn't dealt with before and as much as he liked to tease Narumi about how he was always better at smaller kaiju neutralization, he knew Narumi was extraordinary at what he did.
At least that would have been true for any other kaiju of that size and strength, but Narumi seemed to be struggling far more than expected with this one. From his earpiece, he heard Okonogi notify him that the 1st division was asking to send Narumi some help if possible, and he immediately rushed over.
Yet, by the time he got there, Narumi had already neutralized the kaiju in question, although horribly beat up.
“I don't need your help, Hoshina!” Narumi still managed to yell while on the floor, absolutely bleeding out.
“Oh, shut up, do you want to die?” Hoshina asked. It didn't take an expert to see that Narumi’s condition was concerning.
Narumi soon fell quiet, probably unconscious, while Hoshina found his earpiece lying on the floor near him. He picked it up, hoping it'd connect to the first division just in case they had lost connection to his vitals.
“He's unconscious right now, but he seems to still be breathing. However, he's bleeding dangerously from multiple spots. I think a few ribs might also be broken,” Hoshina said. “There aren't any kaiju nearby at the moment and I'll take care of them if any do come— bring the stretcher right away.”
He waited a moment, but there was no response from the earpiece.
“Hello?” he asked, hoping for a response. After another moment, he heard it.
“Hoshina…?”
It was you. He would still recognize your voice from anywhere. Oh, how he missed you. His eyes were wide and he had nothing to say all of a sudden. You remembered him. You recognized his voice.
You remembered his name.
“Thank you for your report, we lost connection to some of his vitals halfway through. The medics should be there in a few minutes,” you said.
“I'll stand by,” Hoshina said and kept Narumi's earpiece in his ear. He had nothing he wanted to tell you, not one thing in mind, but he wanted to be on the line with you— even in silence. The medics came in a few minutes like you had told him and took care of Narumi right away.
“They got here, he should be fine now,” Hoshina said, as if you didn't already know. He just wanted something to say to you.
“I missed working with you,” you said and he couldn't believe his ears. Perhaps he'd wake up from this dream again. Perhaps he'd open his eyes and be utterly disappointed again. But he knew there wasn't even a hint of romantic affection in your words, just the respect you've always had for the work he did, and how you missed doing this job with him. And he did too.
“Yeah, I did too,” he said. “I still do.”
You chuckled a little and he could still picture you smiling. “That made my entire year,” you said. “Probably not the time for this, but we should catch up sometime. If you don't mind, of course.”
Made your year. What did you mean by that? And If he didn't mind? Oh, you didn't know how many times he's dreamed of this day.
“I'd love to,” he said. While he was a little embarrassed to imagine the rest of the first-division team hearing this conversation, that was not going to stop him. He'd be an absolute fool to let this chance go. He has promised himself to give it his all this time.
“Are you seeing anyone?” he asked quietly.
“Sorry?” you asked, hoping he'd repeat that. You heard it, but you were afraid you were so delusional you were starting to hear things. Your heartbeat quickened and you waited patiently, hoping it wasn't all in your head.
“Do you have a lover?” he asked a little more clearly, but obviously still nervous and flustered. You had never seen him like this, ever.
“No,” you replied, a little too quickly. “I do not.”
Relief washed over him and he felt his heartbeat quicken. Oh, thank goodness you didn't have access to his vitals. He was going to make you fall for him somehow.
“…do you?” you asked quietly, after a moment.
“Me?” he asked. “No, I don't.”
“I see,” you said, but he could hear the soft delight in your voice. He would never miss it.
Perhaps he'd just go for it. There was nothing for him to lose at this point, and he had made his feelings plenty obvious already. If you didn't want him, he'd just try again. He's tried countless times in his dreams already, what's a few more?
“But I'd love to be yours,” he said and heard you gasp quietly. That one he couldn't read. Was that a little too bold? Far too sudden?
“Did I hear that right?” he faintly heard you scream, asking your fellow first division coworkers. That made him laugh, you hadn't changed one bit. “I’ve loved you forever, Hoshina.”
There was absolutely no way. He was going to wake up soon, he just knew it. Well, might as well indulge in the dream for now, then.
“I've definitely loved you for longer,” he said.
“Hoshina, I'm going to kill you if this is a dream,” you said, and that caught him off guard. Yet, even that sounded nice to him, and that made him smile. He'd get to see you, at least.
But it wasn't a dream. The way your voice fluttered his heart could never be felt through a dream. The way your laugh filled his soul could not possibly make him feel so warm through a mere dream.
“I cannot wait to see you,” you said softly, your voice so full of love it made him melt.
He couldn't either, but that wasn't exactly what he had on mind this entire time.
“And I cannot wait to kiss you.”

“requiem for methuselah” crazy ass episode for many reasons. Kirk is being fully insane, like I don’t actually think, even controlling for how quickly and easily and readily he seems to fall in love with anybody at the slightest encouragement, that he’d go that bonkers for that android woman he just met while everyone on the ship was this close to dying, but that’s neither here nor there, because in the background you’ve got an equally but much more subtly insane episode for Spock, who extremely uncharacteristically admits to experiencing an emotion (or nearly experiencing, whatever) and that emotion is ENVY of all things. And then spends the rest of the episode warning Kirk away from this new love interest (something that doesn’t usually happen, even when Kirk has very inadvisable love interests) and is, in the end, the person who accurately identifies that Rayna’s competing love for Kirk and Flint is ultimately what overwhelms and destroys her with the most killer line in maybe history???
And then to wrap it up we get an equally uncharacteristic sort of denouement scene (TOS loooves to cut an episode off right after the actual climax, leaving little time for falling action or character reflection, or to stick a sitcom-y button on the end where the gang all smiles and laughs at their misadventures and everything resets to zero, which is not a criticism, it’s just the style of that era of tv, honestly) where Kirk is literally miserable over Rayna’s death (again, kind of unusual for a lot of his love interests, he tends to be able to move on pretty quickly) and Spock goes to see him and he falls asleep right in front of Spock (also odd) and then when Bones comes in to give the final word on Flint, Spock waves him off from waking the Captain (tender) and Bones gives him that awful speech about how it’s sadder that Spock can’t even imagine the love Kirk felt for this random android woman than it is that Kirk lost her in the first place (debatable but also rude) and how his great tragedy is that he can’t love at all like they can and how all he wishes is that Kirk could forget about all of this and move on. AND THEN, to have Bones leave and Spock go over to Kirk and very gently, tenderly, reluctantly touch him and put his hand to his forehead and tell him to forget and HAVE THAT BE THE END OF THE EPISODE??? What am I supposed to do with that??
#‘the joys of love made her human. the agonies of love destroyed her’ hUH. What a cool line.#hope it doesn’t become some sort of…thesis statement for you or something SPOCK#listen my number one beef with the way they write bones is that they just make him completely mischaracterize everything to suit the plot#this man is not an idiot he KNOWS Spock has emotions and just suppresses them#you’re going to tell me he’s been on that ship with Spock for years and thinks he feels no love whatsoever for anyone???#like even after what happened in the empath and in that episode where McCoy thought he was dying#he knows Spock loves people!!! COME ON#does he really just mean romantic love?? that’s so boring WRITE HIM BETTER#also they’re banking a lot on people remembering what the Vulcan mind meld is for that last bit#like I know it comes up a lot but…this is 1968 or whatever. They don’t have this shit on dvd to rewatch#you’re counting on really dedicated fan memory here or on people catching reruns#because otherwise it just looks like Spock waiting to be alone to touch Kirk as tenderly as possible and pray he forgets this woman#truly what’s going on#anyway I kind of hated this episode#like quite frankly there was too much going on#are androids people? would Kirk fall in love that hard that quickly and choose it over the safety of his crew?#why wasnt the illness ravaging the crew a bigger deal??#they didn’t even get into WHY flint was immortal#he was just a regular human and apparently the ONLY one who was granted immortality by the earth’s atmosphere#leaving aside the very creepy and very early born sexy yesterday trope going on throughout#but it was a really good Spock episode if you just….dont look at anything else….#the writer for this one also did Day of the Dove and Mirror Mirror which explains a LOT#two other episodes that are interesting for the character dynamics but really chaotic plot wise#anyway imagine saying to Spock’s face that he has no idea what love can drive a man to do#one has to laugh#tos#star trek#as always…. I’m sorry that I’m Like This

thinking about the fact that MK was probably really REALLY close to going monkey mode during the shadowplay episode...
#Monkie Kid#like when he finally breaks a bit after being tackled by the shadow versions of the others#the electric energy + the glowing eyes + jumping up??#those are all EXACTLY the same as what MK did the first time he went Monkey Mode#so.... he was probably REALLY close to it right then and there#tbh if you really think about it that's happened in response to macaque quite a few times#you could count MK tossing the staff at him in ep9#as well as him leaping up into the air before transforming in s3 ep4#Macaque is just great at bringing out peoples primal rage i guess#can you IMAGINE if he had turned into a monkey for the first time during that episode though#without any real buildup to it???#that would've been NUTS

steadfast sailor, paper captain...
#em draws stuff#hornblower#william bush#horatio hornblower#first and foremost! sorry for melting bush's face off in this image#but for a bit more context this is because I had the idea that a hornblower story based in 'the steadfast tin soldier' would be interesting#so here we've got pewter-cast model bush and paper theatre guy hornblower (and things are not going well for them!)#this one was an interesting challenge since I wanted bush to look like the metal was sort of melting out from under his paint#and then hornblower's paper hasn't quite caught alight yet but is starting to char at the very edges of him and where he's touching bush#both of them are much more complex designs than I'd originally been planning for (bush has got ball-and-socket joints and all...)#(the original original plan was that I would learn pewter casting and make him Real. as you can see I did not do that.)#but hey I'm pleased with how they turned out in the end! this took me three sharpe episodes to draw :|#(eleven episodes in and I think it made me weird in the head so I think I will slow down for the time being! too much riflery!)#aaaaaanyway. I don't know if I'll ever write anything about this idea so I'm releasing it into the wild if anyone else likes it#part of this was. an excuse to put some sequins on hornblower yes. fellow should sparkle a little more often!

!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
#A great episode tbh especially given the low budget. I feel like they really did their very best#And even though what I'm going to say next is probably going to be all critic - because I nitpick things and that's what I always end up–#talking about - I still want to underline that it was a very solid and enjoyable episode!!!#Alright the ss/kk was so 💞💞💞 every scene I had to rewatch twice or thrice akhscbashfb they're so cute!!!#Except for the riding scene tho. That scene gives me massive second hand embarrassment every time I just wish it will end as fast as–#possible pffttt. Mmmmhhh... The drawings weren't even too bad all accounted. My main complain is about the quicksand scene...#I feel like that one should be a slow quiet emotional scene. I never licked the choice of using the song as background soundtrack :/#I feel like it ruins the mood of the scene (it was still good though)#I also... Generally don't like the direction they seem to go for with Akutagawa's character in the anime‚ he seems quite a bit flatter–#compared to how he is in the manga. He can't be angry and evil ALL the time you need to show that softness get through from time to time.#If not what even is the point of his character. Yet in the anime he's angry (and not distraught) when he loses the mine craft and he's–#angry when he's questioning Atsushi about his motifs and he's angry when he's bragging about Atsushi's abilities to Goncharov and he's–#angry when he makes the promise with Atsushi at the end of the episode and eventually he'll be just as angry even when telling Atsushi–#to run away as he's sacrificing his life for him. It is pretty flat at the end of the day.#If I can say something about K/ensho Ono without being killed I think they do contribute to making him feel angry all the time.#But that said it's all probably poor directing choices (or simply choices I don't agree with).#Also‚ about cuts. Usually I try to be lenient about it– I understand it's hard to fit in everything and b/sd already does a very–#good job by adapting the manga almost panel-by panel. It's just that... You skip Akutagawa showing compassion for Atsushi after the–#orphanage director died. You skip Atsushi sharing the same compassion when Akutagawa loses his targed in the mines chase. You skip the–#“Nothing special about that. // I suppose he's far crueler than my own mentor.” line. And sure each of them may be negligible by their own#But together they wave a consistent web of relationship between the two characters you know? And it's a loss to omit them all#Well no mind. Again it was still a great episode overall!!!!#I think the colors in the mines could have been prettier in the mines but we can't have it all#Off to season 4!!! Omg I can't believe we got this far :DDD#random rambles#FINALLY was able to catch up in time for the season 3 finale!!!!!!

y'know, i keep making a habit of swinging my bat at hornets nests, but i have to say i'm getting so, so tired of people complaining about shows not making perfect sense when they aren't even close to done. we're four episodes into this season of doctor who. we're four episodes into this season of bridgerton. and yet in both fandoms i keep seeing people whine that such and such didn't make sense or it wasn't explained all the way and by god you guys i think maybe explanations might come later in the season. this is something most viewers will recognize as being called a 'plot.'
#like maybe a tiny bit of media literacy... might save you#and if you think i'm being mean like. its okay if you don't get it at first. it's okay if you don't understand the themes. but maybe#instead of stamping your feet and saying this makes no sense and i hate what they're doing and and and#maybe you could try listening to other people's interpretations of things and you'll find that what the show is trying to tell you becomes#more clear! would you look at that. wild how that happens#like im sorry you're entitled to your opinions but calling things bad writing just because you don't quite get it or it doesn't resonate#with you personally... i don't think you should just say this was shitty and worthless#the examples im using are because both resonate with me btw. 73 yards was existential horror it was hill house and bly manor#(im going to write about this in another post btw bc it compels me so)#it was about the way fear of abandonment can haunt you how mental illness can haunt you how you feel like you can drive people away#just by being yourself (the Woman was Herself what caused ruby to be abandoned was Her it's about her feeling as though she was the cause#of everyone who left her even as a baby even the people who loved her most could decide to not love her at the drop of a hat)#colin bridgerton is masking and faking a personality because it has been proven that time and time again#being Himself is Wrong that he annoys people he makes himself into what people expect of him because he's tired of being abandoned too#his family ignores and does not reply to his letters this season PEN stopped replying to his letters#his brother was cruel to him for being a romantic his friends LAUGHED AT HIM for saying sex is meaningful to him and don't they feel lonely#his Fake Rake persona makes viewers cringe because! its!! fake!!! he's faking it! HE GETS CALLED OUT ON IT TWICE IN EP ONE#if you don't understand he's faking it then that's on you at that point! i don't know! maybe take a minute to sit in the discomfort and ask#why did this show make me react this way and do you think maybe it was on purpose#''73 yards was confusing'' do you think confusion may be one of the ways ruby feels about her abandonment?#there is a theme in all of her episodes so far is it ''badly written'' unclear to you or do you just refuse to think critically about it#txtly#and im sorry for tagging this its just for my blog i kinda wish they still didnt show up in tags if i tag them all the way at the bottom#[old lady ruby voice] ''i used to be able to tag things just for myself once upon a time''#bridgerton#bridgerton spoilers#doctor who#doctor who spoilers

The character arc lore could have had
#❓.txt#tng#and i don't necessarily mean a redemption arc either#idk maybe it's cause lore is my favorite and i'm biased or whatever but like#he has so much potential#and it was never utilized in a way where it felt completely... complete (imo)#don't get me wrong his episodes were fine* but i feel like he could have been handled. not better cause that's not quite what I mean really#what they did with him worked for what they were going for#but that doesn't mean I like all of it LMAO#what they showed us in brothers was sooo interesting#his reaction to finding out soong was dying. that disbelief at what he was being told#the anguish when he's talking to him and asking him why he didn't just fix him#but the whole bit with the emotion chip at the end... really blew the entire thing#and i'm an emotion chip hater in general lmao but#AND THE VERY END of the episode/the parallel with the two brothers back on the enterprise. you had everything there!!!! and then you go-#-and make descent!!!!!!! oh which#*except for descent LOL#i could go ON about how much descent irks me but I would want to do it properly and also I would need to re-watch them first before-#-I would feel like I could sit down and write something comprehensible#and like. do I *really* wanna do that. maybe#but anyway#I only know the gist of what happens to him in picard so I refrain from making any comments on that but also what the hell man#lore is the epitome of 'he did all that but idc' for me#like yeah he contacted the crystalline entity and got omicron theta destroyed and then tried to do the same to the enterprise d#but he had a bad father okay#and also i love him. that's my boy

i deffo agree with your entire analysis (including the questionable canon of the anime canon) and yeah for sure the original game supports this imo. for one thing i don't think that hanekoma would have supported sho even as a back-up plan if he thought that sho would've destroyed shibuya or fundamentally ruined what HANEKOMA liked about it. hanekoma considered a shibuya under sho to be better than a shibuya erased by joshua, so whatever shibuya sho would've made couldn't have been a dumpsterfire or whatever. like not saying that sho would've kept things squeaky clean or something but hanekoma considered it 'good enough to support'. hanekoma isn't exactly the best but i think that he wouldn't have picked sho if he didn't think that sho had some attachment to shibuya.
in NEO we literally see him come back to his shibuya on W3D7 to fight soul pulvis even though he could've just fucked off. yeah we have the scene of neku "convincing" him, but the dude already came back to shibuya and decided to stay to fight for his city. he also literally warned rindo about soul pulvis and about the presence of angels (the japanese version with him talking about "hyper-real" numbers is even more obvious) back on W3D4 even before neku showed up!
the wicked twisters and all of shibuya would've lost without him and his contribution to operation: awakening. period. (along with everyone else)
he learned his lesson about teamwork! when he goes to another day, he makes a fuss about "you're joining MY team" but he actively walked up to the guy signing up team members and went "hey i need a team lol" like a student asking their teacher for help getting a partner for the group project. he's gone from "not a social animal" per megumi to "zetta dig[ing]" konishi's "style" to teaming up with the WTs to protect them to understanding the value of working together in an equation for the sake of his goals
also it's worth noting that the line about only doing it for his sake is slightly different in jp. neku says that they have to get to shiba as soon as they can and says "渋谷を守るため もし力を 貸してくれるなら――" (if you can lend us your strength to protect shibuya). sho interrupts him and says, "フン、俺は 俺の目的のために 動くだけだ" (hmph, i only work for my own goals/i do want what i want) basically, telling neku to stop telling him what to do. neku says, "それでいいよ おまえも渋谷を 狙ってただろ" (that's fine, since you're aiming for shibuya too, aren't you?) and then "その渋谷の崩壊は 許せないよな" (shibuya's erase would be unforgivable, right?/you can't allow shibuya to collapse, can you?). so like yeah it's similar to what the english script did but it has a very different implication. here neku isn't convincing him to help but rather being like, "yeah, you'll only do what you want to do, and i know that you're going to do things that help shibuya because you're aiming for it as well." like i said, we literally see sho ALREADY have been offering rindo helpful advice before neku even showed up.
he gives the WTs tons of advice in the first week that have nothing to do with his interest in soul pulvis but rather to expand their powers. in field walk rpg he has a ton of random character dialogue about how he loves random shit in shibuya like the holographic hachiko statue (tokyu plaza) because he thinks that dogs are stylin' or how he thinks that rhythms that shake the heart (specific to him being interested in picking up music records from tower records) are as beautiful as a flawless equation or whatever. why would he want to destroy all of that? he wouldn't
he doesn't even care if other people cart away his artworks! he didn't seethe about that in the og, just made more and then walked away
i agree with him being obsessed with beauty and art and probably shibuya's. i mean the guy wanders around the phone booth of love at molco and shit trying to pick up cool pieces for his next artwork (and leaving something precious of his own in its wake, suggesting that he isn't interested in stealing shit, he just has a unique value system of exchanging items and art and stuff), makes people play Tin Pin Slammer and doesn't even participate himself but just hangs out in the crowd watching and seethes when joshua cheats him out of an interesting match, and possibly even stuck negative noise on ken doi to catch their attention about ramen given that the negative noise in W1 was all mission-related that a reaper must've put on someone (and with their relationship in another day). he's not a "good person" but people treating him like he's evil or sadistic or whatever just pisses me off. he's an arrogant asshole who, as far as we can read from the text, genuinely wants to see a shibuya full of cool art projects and sick murals like the udagawa one he likes and cool people like the WTs with their interesting UG powers and stuff.
ok thanks for listening to my essay. 3.1415926
Hey there.....it's been a couple months and I live in shame
Thank you so so much for this I absolutely LOVE your thoughts! I wanna try to respond them in as organized a way I can so I'm gonna address each point individually and in chronological order.
First of all, I 100% agree with what you've said about Hanekoma. If he wasn't able to directly remove Joshua from power even when he threatened Shibuya's very existence, and instead had to approach him in an extremely tedious and roundabout manner by guiding Neku when he could and using Sho as a sort of half-proxy, there's no way he would've shoved a dangerous or otherwise incompetent person into the Composer's seat and forced himself to repeat this whole process weeks later once Sho had a grip on Shibuya. Like you said, "hanekoma considered a shibuya under sho to be better than a shibuya erased by joshua," and that means something coming from a person who belongs to a class of beings who willingly "purify" cities that do not live up to their standards. It's not impossible to think that if Hanekoma thought Sho unfit and saw no other alternative, he would've come to see Shibuya as a lost cause and let it fall, preferring a dignified end over allowing it to rot and fester as a shell of its former self. Granted, he doesn't exactly sing Sho's praises. He certainly seems to view him as being convenient over an actual good candidate for the position. However, regardless of the fact that Hanekoma's criteria seems to be "the biggest, most unlikable freak in the UG," I think my previous point still stands. Would Sho have been a good Composer? Impossible to know for sure, but if nothing else we can extrapolate from what we understand of Hanekoma's values that he would've at the very least safeguarded Shibuya against erasure and kept it intact enough to still be worthy of existence in the eyes of some very, very picky Angels. And this is saying something when Joshua refers to Shibuya as being a massive influence on the world around it, so much so that he fears it corrupting other sectors of the UG. To put it simply, maybe Sho just passed the bar when it came to Hanekoma's standards, but that bar was set extremely high. Also! Just in case anyone mentions it, while Hanekoma saying that he relied on Sho's attachment to Shibuya is exclusive to the anime, technically speaking it's canonical that NEO is a sequel to the anime rather than the game. It's still very much relevant to Sho's character in NEO, if not his character in the original game...
Which leads right into your next points! Just for a moment, I want to jump to what you said about the japanese version of the game because I find it extremely interesting. That's SUCH a different implication from what we get in the english version!! Whereas we're given more of a sense that Neku is corralling Sho into working with him and the rest of the Wicked Twisters on the basis that he can't be Composer without a city to rule, basically using his preexisting goal to try to get him to adopt a new one, that of saving Shibuya, here he's saying that he knows that Sho already has a goal of saving Shibuya. It's less "Look here asshole, you have to save Shibuya because you can't be Composer without it," and more "You and I both know that you want to save Shibuya, so stop being so stubborn and help us out already!" Yes it's subtle, but personally I think it lines up better with the version of Sho that's put forward by the anime's ending, and, perhaps more importantly, lends better to interpretations of Sho's motivations In english, it reads closer to "Sho wants to be the Composer -> therefore he must save Shibuya. In japanese, it can more easily be read as "Sho wants to save Shibuya -> Ergo, he clearly cares about Shibuya -> Sho wants to be the Composer because he cares about Shibuya. Again, it's minor stuff, but the japanese version, I feel, more obviously connects his motives with his actions, presenting him helping to save Shibuya as a natural result of his affection for the city instead of it being an obstacle in his way or a diversion from his ambitions. It's really a shame that this nuance is lost in the english version. Sho is already kind of a mess in the fact that it can be difficult to discern what the writers are trying to do with him. He's built up as a persistent and deadly threat all throughout twewy only to be unceremoniously killed off in a scene that feels more like a bit than an actual serious story beat. Neo's promotional material paraded him as a core character in the protagonist's group, and yet he ends up being booted out 1/3 of the way into the story and made unplayable until post-game. He is one of the most integral characters to the plot, and yet what, in the end, does he have to show for it? Nothing! He leaves the secret ending having returned to the exact same position he was in at the start of the first game, at the exact same level of power, still gunning to take on the Composer. It feels like he's being used as sequel-bait in a series where it took 14 years to make another game, not to mention the fact that the last time something interesting was implied to be happening to him, A.K.A A New Day where he was positioned to become Neku's partner, that plot thread was dropped hard and absolutely nothing came of it. I'm not saying he's been completely abandoned by the narrative. He's definitely shown to have improved as a person since the events of the first game, and I love that! I love his cryptic mentor/moderately shit big brother arc and the fact that Neku, Mr. Twewy himself, is willing to put his faith in him. But to me at least it feels like he's being underutilized, especially in comparison to characters like Beat, who I love, but who certainly didn't need as much as he got in neo given that he had a totally satisfactory arc by the end of the first twewy. Sho is perfect for a redemption arc that's reminiscent of Neku's while still being unique and complex, one that would fit seamlessly with twewy's themes of growth and the necessity of human connection. If we ever get another twewy game and this is exactly what happens I will kiss neo on the lips for being the PERFECT in-between phase and kick-off for this arc, but I mean...it's twewy. Waiting for another game to complete his storyline is like pushing Sho off a cliff with nothing to catch him but a prayer and the world's shittiest little kiddy pool. Also the hose that's trying to fill it with water is clogged by a giant knot in the shape of mickey mouse ears.
But I've gotten sidetracked. Mostly because it's been so long that I totally forget the post that spurred this ask in the first place. I might be stupid. But honestly I think you've already put it perfectly. I'm especially grateful for the info on the field walk rpg because it's something I know very little about. I'm glad Sho got to have a fun day out with his child soldiers/teenage besties :] Overall, it's absolutely true that Sho is a very morally complex character. I tend to dislike labels like "good person" vs "bad person" because it leaves little room for nuance, something that this series is chock-block full of. The idea that Sho is an utterly selfish and sadistic individual who can never truly change irks me because it's so antithetical to the messages of this series, "Anyone can change for the better," and, "By letting others in, approaching their different worldviews and values with genuine, good faith, and by extending compassion towards each other, we make the world a better place for both ourselves and the people around us." Sho is doing this. It may be with baby steps, but it's clear from his interactions with the Wicked Twisters, as well as his enthusiasm for art that is not his own whereas before he expressed disdain for any artistic vision that wasn't his, that he is making an effort to be better and allowing these experiences to change his worldview. If he is never extended the same narrative reward that other characters are shown for this exact same kind of growth, if he is instead trapped in this cycle of scratching and clawing and desperately yearning for some sense of divinity only to crash fantastically, met with violence and isolation and the loss of the few, good things he's managed to scrape out of life...well that'd be pretty miserable, I think.
#maybe this is a liiiittle bit of a mess but oh my god. this has been in my drafts for way too long#I would've added screenshots and maybe I will come back and do that eventually? especially for things like josh's comment on shibuya#I dont see it brought up much to the point where Im a bit worried I hallucinated it...#anyways this has been another episode of 'fable makes a sho analysis and gets totally sidetracked by her bitterness over his neo arc'#EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENED. AND ALL HE DID WAS END UP IN THE EXACT SAME PLACE#I CANT IMAGINE A WORSE WAY TO LEAVE OFF HIS CHARACTER. QUITE POSSIBLY FOREVER#biting and scratching and mauling and killing#its past midnight#real talk do not trust anything i say about minamimoto after midnight. we get a little silly about it#idk what im saying anymore. yeah lets post it#asks#minamimoto

do you guys KNOW how frustrated this thing makes me. like it's literally from the regiment that jamie would most likely have been in AND the story lines up so well with the plot of the highlanders and I'm just. constantly itching to retcon the episode a little bit in my head and make this the standard
but no!! the serial kind of depends on the standard being prince charles' rather than nust a regimental standard!!!! and it kills me every single day
#second doctor#jacobite ramblings#the OTHER thing that kills me is the ring.#having been given to kirsty's father 'in the heat of battle'#because i've placed the maclarens at kinkell castle#which supposedly hosted charles after culloden when he was on the run#whether or not that story is true i like the association#and i would love to swap it around in the dr who universe to him having stayed there before the battle#& the ring being something he gave to kirsty as a thanks for hosting#(which was quite common there is a Lot of jewellery in various collections given to ladies who hosted him)#(and other objects as well)#(not gonna talk about them here but i do love talking about them)#so it would make so much sense!!!! for kirsty to have the ring!!!!#but again the episode kinda hinges on the ring being charles' personal ring rather than a gift#screaming crying clawing at the walls. why won't this 60s tv show for kids squish neatly into historical realism.#for the sake of clarity i am being overdramatic about this but also i am a little bit pretentious and it does make me chew through concrete#anyway this post brought to you by me going to nms yesterday#was i technically there for a job interview? yes.#did that stop me from visiting the jacobite displays to say hello to my favourite objects and do a little bit of blorbo research? no.#if anyone was at nms yesterday & saw a little gremlin in a waistcoat taking pictures of highland wool spinning implements that was me <3

Robert Shaw acts as the Pimpernel's loyal right hand man, Lord Anthony Dewhurst, in The Adventures of the Scarlet Pimpernel: The Hostage (1.1, ITP, 1955)
#fave spotting#robert shaw#the adventures of the scarlet pimpernel#classic tv#itp#itc#1955#more info on this series (and why it's an ITP production but also ITC) in the tags on my prev Pat Troughton fave spotting post#Robert wasn't quite a newcomer at this point‚ having been acting onscreen for a couple of years by now‚ but he certainly#hadn't made it yet; this might have been his big break‚ except that his character never reappears after this first episode#i suspect this acted as a pilot‚ with some of the establishing footage reappearing in a later ep and with Shaw's character being#replaced for the series by two helpers for the Pimpernel‚ played by Pat Troughton and Anthony Newlands#quite why Bob left idk; there isn't a huge amount of information out there about this near 70 yr old bit of tv obscurity#but he did alright; the following year he'd take the lead in one of ITC's next ventures The Buccaneers and shortly after that#he'd start landing film roles that would ultimately catapult him to Hollywood and to big screen immortality#added to which of course he was already making a name for himself on the english stage (and by the end of the decade he'd be adding#novelist to his list of accomplishments). he's very good here tho naturally falling into a supporting role; he's there to look#impressed by Goring's genius and feats of bravery and to occasionally lend a hand in a fight. i do think Troughton and Newlands#get more character to play with in their parts but then they get multiple appearances to help them with it#The Buccaneers is on my shelf where it has sat for some years now... one day... one day....

nothing has ever itched my brain harder than when super eyepatch wolf used music from u m a m i’s interface during what the Internet did to garfield

WATCH INTERFACE. it’s so good and it’s soooo interesting how it incorporates and references real life paintings#and the episode i referenced earlier is like genuinely. one of the most interesting pieces of YouTube animation I’ve EVER witnessed#no one fight#interface is good. and so is the garfield video. watch both. they’re like combined in my brain like some uzumaki shit

well, I am officially on to season 2 of "Miss Scarlet and the Duke", and based on the first episode at least, the writing does seem to have improved a bit?? this may be a case of First Episode of the Season Syndrome (added nuance and subtlety to kick the season off but immediately dropping back down to mediocre levels until the finale), but I'm hopeful that many of my complaints about the first season won't be as present going forwards!
but also, oww. the end... that was... yikes. my heart hurts now. 😧
#the whole final scene of this episode was fantastically done tho#the acting direction pacing lighting... all of it was //great// and really compounded the emotions of that last bit#and the metaphor of the door between them... both walking towards it and wanting to step through to the other but neither quite able to#and then eventually both backing off and choosing to walk away in the end#it's a great visual symbol for their relationship at this point#and how what they ultimately need is to figure out a way to meet in the middle#but it's going to take both of them committing at the same time and to the same purpose for that to happen#and that is going to be /hard/ for these two to do#despite how much they want to be part of each other's lives#but also!! kudos to Eliza for being so open and honest about her feelings and boundaries!! that was really cool!!#and then leaving the ball in his court and not getting angry and starting an argument when he chose the course he did#(yet. I'm sure there's going to be lots of emotional fall-out to this over the course of the rest of the season.)#both of these people really need to learn some lessons about respect and loyalty and sacrifice for the people you care about tho lol#which I do think is the whole point.#William would see it as demeaning and belittling for her to override his authority or refuse to take orders from him.#Eliza Will Not be caged or dictated to and she wants to be allowed to make her own decisions and follow her own intuitions at whatever cost#she needs to be more careful to consider how her decisions will make him feel (if not how they will make him look)#and he needs to attempt to respect her and understand that her pushing back against him isn't to be taken as an attack#but that he should lean into it and allow her the space to make her own decisions. it's complicated because of the social situation#but yeah. respect is ultimately the thing here. and they both need to learn some more of it lol.#miss scarlet and the duke#gurt says stuff#oh also both of these people are FANTASTIC face actors and it's incredibly fun to watch until it's not anymore#and it's just making my heart hurt because of how much yearning they're both exuding but are both entirely unable to express openly#hhghsghhsghgshgsd

‘Atonement’ reminds me of ‘Summer Shade’, in that they’re really good episodes for the horror aspects of XXXHolic to shine through
#anime#radiowaves#xxxholic#XXXHolic#holic#*even though the reason for the murder sucks UNLESS SHE WAS IN LOVE WITH THE PICTURE GIRL I’M JUST SAYING—*#*anyway yes*#*also don’t worry guys: I DID see the part where Doumeki ignores his valentines chocolate in favour of Watanuki’s homemade chocolate*#*I most certainly DID clock that part for sure*#*also he was quite aggressive about taking Watanuki’s food this episode!!*#*inch resting. Why so concerned about getting the Valentine’s Day chocolate Doumeki? 👀*#*...aggressive is maybe the wrong word here?*#*he grabbed the coffee QUITE aggressively tbf but idk usually he sorta just slides in and steals the food*#*he made quite a show of eating it this episode. Maybe because the camera followed him instead of cutting to him already eating it??*#*... I could be losing it a bit I AM tired*
